Liverpool skipper happy to score in 300th league game
| Steven Gerrard was delighted to mark his 300th Premier League game for Liverpool with a goal.
| Gerrard broke the deadlock against Blackburn and Liverpool added further goals through Fernando Torres and Andrei Voronin. Roque Santa Cruz pulled one back in stoppage time but Gerrard was satisfied with the 3-1 result that kept up Liverpool's fine run. "It's a really proud day to clock up that many games," Gerrard told Sky Sports. "It's a great day, a good performance, we're just disappointed with conceding late on. | Captain Fantastic Stevie G |
"Blackburn were very good defensively, we had to be patient but eventually the opening came."
Unbelievable Gerrard and Torres have now scored more than 50 goals between them this season, and the midfielder has paid tribute to the Spaniard.
"He's a good player, he makes good runs and he's a pleasure to play with," Gerrard added.
"To get 30 goals in his first season is unbelievable and I'm sure he's got a few left."
Liverpool are now five points clear in the race for fourth place after Everton were held to a draw by Birmingham on Saturday.
Gerrard admitted: "It was important to make it five points.
"It's going to be a good chase but we're confident we can achieve fourth place."
Gerrard also insisted the players were not concerning themselves with off-the-field matters after co-owner Tom Hicks this week called for chief executive Rick Parry to resign.
"We're Liverpool Football Club, we're better than that," he said.
"But we (the players) have got more important things to worry about."
